QUESTION FOR TUTORIAL EBT 481 PART (2)

PART 2
  1. Mistake in construction site is one of the factors that affected the concrete durability. Discuss in detail the statement above.
  2. What are the various methods of curing? How different methods of curing affect the strength of concrete?
  3. State two major roles of water in concrete. Explain how the suitability of mixing water can be assessed.

  5. Drying and sintering are one of the most important processes in producing traditional ceramic. Explain briefly the drying and firing process in producing the clay brick.
  6. A common brick has a bulk density of 1300 kg/m3. If the porosity is 45 percent, calculate the solid density of the material.
  7. A lightweight block found to have a solid density of 2400 kg/m3 and a bulk density of 800 kg/m3. Calculate its porosity.
  8. The Highland Towers Condominium collapsed on December 1993. In your opinion, what are the roles of JKR regarding on that tragedy.

PELAJAR UniMAP KEMALNGAN...

Jam 11.30 malam selesai mesyuarat di Tingkat 11 KWSP, saya going back home without go any stall to lepak2...awalnya ada cadangan nak pergi minum..but hari tak elok dengan hujan renyai2..so dalam 12 something im doing all thing b4 take my bed..after that, aroud 1 i got calling from En Nordin...He told me got accident at Roundbout Sena..That 5 student UniMAP there...so around 15 minute im already at Hospital Tunku Fauziah..so otw to hospital...i call many fren but didnt answer except Cikgu man...'Man..tolong aku..student kita accident and seorang meninggal'..that scrip me and Cikgu Man..sampai je hospital..saya terus masuk ke Kecemasan dan berjumpa dengan seorang pelajar yang cedera ringan..he story me what happen. Kemalangan berlaku akibat hilang kawalan dan merempuh bulatan tersebut..Setakat berita ini ditulis...3 pelajar telah meninggal..Really bad..u know how feel when this happen and how to explain to their family..that make me feel so bad..yang meninggal adalah Sabahan, Sarawakian and Johorian....Anyway..what bangsa, what etnik, what races semua dilayan sama oleh pihak pengurusan agama..that very unique about UniMAP...until The FATHER form khatolik said..What Great UniMAP can Handle all this without discrimination...that very important..Congrate to Pengurusan Universiti sehinggakan YBhg Dato' NC berada di Hospital Kangar dari awal pagi setelah mendengar khabar berita itu sehingga Solat Jenazah dan hantar mayat ke Airport...That Great..anyway For Muslim just sedekahkan AL FATIHAH untuk Arwah Shafiq. Semoga rohnya ditempatkan dikalangan orang2 yang beriman. Wassalam...

STATUS AKREDITASI PROGRAM-PROGRAM DI UniMAP

Assalamualaikum Semua,

Saya letakkan sedikit info mengenai STATUS AKREDITASI untuk bacaan semua pelajar dan alumni UniMAP. Info diperolehi daripada Dekan Pengurusan Akademik. Selamat Membaca

A) PENILAIAN AKREDITASI OLEH EAC PADA TAHUN 2006 @ UniMAP

Program yang dah diakreditasi dan diiktiraf oleh BEM ialah:-

a) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Mikroelektronik)

b) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Komputer)

STATUS: Pengiktirafan utk kohort graduan 2006-2010. Secara langsung mewakili kohort kemasukan 2002/03, 2003/04, 2004/05, 2005/06, 2006/07.

B) PENILAIAN AKREDITASI OLEH EAC PADA TAHUN 2007 @ UniMAP 8 program kej UniMAP telah melalui proses akreditasi iaitu:-

a) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Bahan)

b) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Metalurgi)

c) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Pembuatan)

d) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Mekatronik)

e) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Elektronik)

f) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Perhubungan)

g) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Sistem-E)

h) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Elektronik Industri)

Update: Akreditasi pertama bersama EAC & WA dilaksanakan pada 18-19 Julai 2007. Status: Pengiktirafan utk kelapan-lapan program ditangguh (differed) oleh pihak EAC & BEM.

Action by UniMAP: Request for appeal dan BEM meluluskan appeal process to be conducted @ UniMAP (23 mesyuarat telah diadakan dengan pihak berkepentingan iaitu EAC, MQA, JPA, BEM, KPT dan Menteri Pengajian Tinggi).

Action by BEM: Penilaian semula oleh BEM Special Committee dilaksanakan pada 06-07 April 2009. BEM Feedback: melalui "exit meeting" yg diadakan pada 07 April 2009, BEM Special Committee telah menolak keputusan yang dibuat oleh EAC dan mengiktiraf kelapan-lapan program kej. UniMAP sebagai program kejuruteraan yang telah memenuhi semua keperluan yg terkandung dlm Manual EAC 2007.

STATUS TERKINI: - Cuma menunggu pengesahan sahaja dari BEM Appeal Board berhubung dengan keputusan pengiktirafan ini.

C) PENILAIAN AKREDITASI OLEH JPA PADA TAHUN 2008 @ UniMAP 6 program kej UniMAP telah melalui proses akreditasi iaitu:-

a) Diploma Kej (Kej Metalurgi)

b) Diploma Kej (Kej Pembuatan)

c) Diploma Kej (Kej Mekatronik)

d) Diploma Kej (Kej Mikroelektronik)

e) Diploma Kej (Kej Komputer)

e) Diploma Kej (Kej Elektrik)

Update: Penilaian akreditasi dilaksanakan pada hujung Ogos 2008 dan pada 25/06/09, dlm mesyuarat JKKPT ke-82 yang dipengerusikan oleh Presiden BEM (Dato' Sri Ir. Dr Judin) telah mengiktiraf (seumur-hidup) keenam-enam program Diploma Kej. UniMAP.

STATUS TERKINI: - Cuma menunggu pengesahan sahaja dari YB Menteri Pengajian Tinggi yg akan mempengerusikan Mesy JKTTP pada 21/08/09 nanti.

D) PENILAIAN AKREDITASI OLEH EAC PADA TAHUN 2009 @ UniMAP 2 program kej UniMAP telah melalui proses akreditasi iaitu:-

a) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Mekanikal)

b) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Rekabentuk Produk)

STATUS TERKINI: Penilaian akreditasi telah dilaksanakan oleh EAC @ UniMAP utk kedua-dua program ini pada 27-28 April 2009 yg lalu. Berdasarkan laporan penilaian yg kurang tepat oleh panel EAC (khusus utk program Kej. Mekanikal), maka pada 21/07/09, pihak UniMAP telah bermesyuarat bersama pihak EAD (Eng Accreditation Dept) @ Kelana Jaya dan hasilnya lawatan penilaian semula oleh EAC telah dilaksanakan @ UniMAP pada 19-20 Ogos (on-going & wish us all the best!).

E) PENILAIAN AKREDITASI OLEH EAC PADA TAHUN 2010 @ UniMAP (next year) 3 program kej UniMAP akan melalui proses akreditasi iaitu:-

a) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Alam Sekitar)

b) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Bioproses)

c) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Elektronik Bioperubatan)

STATUS TERKINI: SAR (Self-Assessment Report) dlm proses semakan & pengemaskinian. Dokumen ini akan dihantar ke pihak EAD sekitar November/Disember 2009 utk penilaian EAC dilaksanakan pada April 2010.

F) PENILAIAN AKREDITASI OLEH EAC PADA TAHUN 2011 @ UniMAP 3 program kej UniMAP akan melalui proses akreditasi iaitu:-

a) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Polimer)

b) Ijazah Sarjana Muda (Kepujian)(Kej Mikroelektronik) - next cycle!

TIPS FOR TUTORIAL EBT 481

Disebabkan hari ini saya baik hati so saya berikan TIPS untuk menjawab soalan TUTORIAL EBT 481 Part 1 seperti dibawah:


  1. Methods for assess WORKABILITY such as Compacting Test, Slump Test, Vebe Test and Flow Test. Why Important..u can get from Material in Construction Book Page 61-65.
  2. The example and explaination about Fineness Modulus Of Fine Aggregates u can read from page 52-54 in Material in Construction Book. (Fineness modulus is a measurement of the coarseness or fineness of a given aggregate. For a fine aggregate, FM is calculated from the cumulative percentages of aggregate retained on sieves different size divided by 100. FM is an index of the fineness of an aggregate-the higher the FM the coarser the aggregate. Different aggregate grading may have the same FM. FM of fine aggregate is useful in estimating proportions of fine and coarse aggregates in concrete mixtures).
  3. Aggregates affect the strength of concrete - GRADED Aggregates should range in size so that they fit together well. This gives a stronger and denser concrete. Rounded aggregates give a more workable mix. Angular aggregates make concrete harder to place, work and compact, but can make concrete stronger (This only example...Need more explaination).
  4. As per excercise in lecture on 11/8/2009. But the answer no need to use the FORM
  5. The differences between Ordinary Portland Cement, Sulphate Resisting Portland Cement and Rapid Hardening Portland Cement in term of compound composition, fineness and usage you can get the answer from Material in Construction Book page 42-46 and Bahan Binaan: Asas Konkrit Teching Module page 7-9.
  6. Typical relationship between compressive strength and w/c ratio such us Low water to cement ratio leads to high strength but low workability. High water to cement ratio leads to low strength, but good workability. The physical characteristics of aggregates are shape, texture, and size. These can indirectly affect strength because they affect the workability of the concrete. If the aggregate makes the concrete unworkable, the contractor is likely to add more water which will weaken the concrete by increasing the water to cement mass ratio. Time is also an important factor in determining concrete strength. Concrete hardens as time passes. Why? Remember the hydration reactions get slower and slower as the tricalcium silicate hydrate forms. It takes a great deal of time (even years!) for all of the bonds to form which determine concrete's strength. It is common to use a 28-day test to determine the relative strength of concrete. Concrete's strength may also be affected by the addition of admixtures. Admixtures are substances other than the key ingredients or reinforcements which are added during the mixing process. Some admixtures add fluidity to concrete while requiring less water to be used. An example of an admixture which affects strength is superplasticizer. This makes concrete more workable or fluid without adding excess water. A list of some other admixtures and their functions is given below. Note that not all admixtures increase concrete strength. The selection and use of an admixture are based on the need of the concrete user. (Only Example..need more)

  7. Accelerators speed up the hydration (hardening) of the concrete. Typical materials used are CaCl2 and NaCl.
    Retarders slow the hydration of concrete, and are used in large or difficult pours where partial setting before the pour is complete is undesirable. A typical retarder is table sugar, or sucrose (C12H22O11).
    Air entrainments add and distribute tiny air bubbles in the concrete, which will reduce damage during freeze-thaw cycles thereby increasing the concrete's durability. However, entrained air is a trade-off with strength, as each 1% of air may result in 5% decrease in compressive strength.
    Plasticizers (water-reducing admixtures) increase the workability of plastic or "fresh" concrete, allowing it be placed more easily, with less consolidating effort. Superplasticizers (high-range water-reducing admixtures) are a class of plasticizers which have fewer deleterious effects when used to significantly increase workability. Alternatively, plasticizers can be used to reduce the water content of a concrete (and have been called water reducers due to this application) while maintaining workability. This improves its strength and durability characteristics.
    Pigments can be used to change the color of concrete, for aesthetics.

10. Sintering is a method for making objects from powder, by heating the material in a sintering furnace below its melting point (solid state sintering) until its particles adhere to each other. Sintering is traditionally used for manufacturing ceramic objects, and has also found uses in such fields as powder metallurgy (Need more explaination)

Kehilangan Bekas Pelajar & Juga Offmate

Tanggal 16 Ogos 2009...i get call from my friend PM Ruzaidi and he talking about suprise news..On that time i'm really busy with Festival Konvo at Perkarangan Stadium Utama for rehesal. But he ask me 'Mu tau tak Alyn dah Meninggal'...I said "Tak tahu pun"..after that he strory me how alyn passaway...really Sad. Starting know as my student especially when she become ass MPP second batch..on that time Farah as YDP MPP...Really shocked to me..How many time i call Yus to comfirm that news...really tak percaya. Because baru je bincang dengan ARWAH and PM Ruziadi mengenai Buku Asas Logam...so we discuss together to produce book abou METAL...Arwah as leader...so i'll make sure this book will published this year especially for arwah. I and PM Ruzaidi and Hawa should do something to produce this book for ARWAH...

Im really Hope all arwah's friends sabar and doa untuk kesejahteraan arwah di alamnya tersendiri...kita manusia tidak akan terlepas daripada semua ini. AL FATIHAH untuk ARWAH NURFAZLIN ABU HASSAN. Semoga rohnya ditempatkan dikalangan golongan orang yang berIMAN dan diterimaNYA....amin
